Facilities
Occidental's athletic facilities are exceptional. Patterson Field upgraded to FieldTurf, an artificial surface designed specifically for athletes, in 2005 and is home to football, throwing events, club sports, and occasional soccer contests. Bill Henry Track, built as a training site for the 1984 Olympic Games, is considered lightning fast; its all-weather synthetic surface was refurbished in 2001.
Bell Field, the Tigers' softball facility, underwent major renovations in 2004 with the addition of enclosed dugouts, an artificial turf hitting cage, a storage shed, an outfield warning track, and an electronic scoreboard. The Culley Athletic Facility houses a state-of-the-art sports medicine center, two locker rooms, and a 2,500-square-foot weight room.
Two gymnasiums, four athletic fields, a lighted athletic field, an outdoor six-lane swimming pool, and a dance studio are also available, along with acres of hilly, open space on the north side of campus.
