Occidental Athlete of the Week for Nov. 5-11, 2007

For the second time in as many racing weeks, Kevin Chaves, was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Co-Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 5-11, 2007.

The senior cross country runner was named the Division III West Region Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association after winning the West Regional meet with an 8K course time of 24:34.85. Chaves led the Tigers to a second place finish and a bid to the NCAA National Championships on Nov. 17 in Minnesota. Chaves was also named SCIAC Athlete of the Year after placing first at the SCIAC Championship meet on Oct. 27. Oxy Head Coach Rob Bartlett was named the USTFCCCA Coach of the Year as well.
