Occidental Athlete of the Week for Nov. 12-18, 2007

Following his final collegiate cross country meet Kevin Chaves capped off his career by earning his third Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week award for his performance the week of Nov. 12-18, 2007.

Chaves finished his four year career with a seventh place finish at the NCAA National Championships. He led the Tigers to an 18^th place finish, one position higher than their seeding entering the meet. Chaves improved significantly in the standings during his tenure at Oxy, placing 178^th two years ago and 154^th in the field last fall. Chaves ran among the top three runners for the first three splits of the race, falling back to sixth at the fourth and final split before crossing the finish line in a time of 24:47, which was just 23 seconds off the winner’s pace.
