Second SCIAC Athlete of the Week Honors for Whitman
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2008) – Senior guard Connor Whitman was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
During the week of Jan. 21-27, 2008 he led the Tigers to a 2-0 record with big road wins over Pomona-Pitzer (64-59) and Cal Lutheran (67-58).
Whitman averaged 17.0 points per game and was solid at the line, going 17-18 in the two games. Against Cal Lutheran Whitman poured in 21 points, going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc with a perfect 10-for-10 performance from the line. He also added a pair of steals, an assist and four rebounds.
In the Tigers’ win over PP he dished out a game-high five assists while playing exceptional defense for Oxy in a close contest. Whitman was 2-for-4 from long range, adding seven made free throws in eight attempts versus PP, scoring 13 points.
This season Whitman is leading the Tigers with 18.2 points per game and has a 44.6 three-point field goal percentage while he is shooting 42.5% from the field overall. He is also solid at the stripe for Oxy with an 86.9 FT%. Thus far in 2007-08 he has 30 steals, six blocks and is grabbing 4.8 rebounds per game.
The wins
propelled Oxy into first place in the conference standings with a
4-1 mark and they stand 14-2 overall.
