Anderson, Brown Sweep SCIAC AOW Honors


LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2008) – Brianne Brown and Sean Anderson garnered Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week recognition for the week of Jan. 28 to Feb. 3, 2008 as Occidental College swept the men’s and women’s honors.

Anderson, a six-foot-ten sophomore transfer has made his presence felt in the paint this season. Leading the Tigers to another 2-0 week, Anderson averaged a double-double with 18.5 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game, as the Tigers defeated Whittier (79-62) and La Verne (62-52).

Against ULV he poured in a game-high 22 points while grabbing 10 boards (four offensive) and recorded three blocks in just 23 minutes of action. On Wednesday, Anderson scored 15 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field adding a perfect 7-for-7 night at the charity stripe. He finished with 11 of the Tigers’ 36 rebounds in the game as well. Overall he shot 64.7 % from the field and 83.3 % from the line during the two games while adding a pair of assists and a steal. Oxy improves to 16-2 with a 6-1 SCIAC mark.

For the women’s team, Brown had a career night as the Tigers upset the previously undefeated Leopards from La Verne with a 69-64 come-from-behind win on Saturday night. Brown scored 33 points (29 in the second half) and pulled down 18 rebounds for Oxy. She also accumulated a game-high five assists adding two steals and a block. Brown shot 13-for-21 from the field, going 2-for-3 from long range.

Earlier in the week Brown scored 18 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field, hitting her only three point attempt, with four assists a block and a steal against the Poets. Overall this Brown put up a 66.7 field goal percentage, 75 3FG% and a 70.6 free-throw percentage (12-for-17) in 25.5 minutes per game.

Both players have been key additions to their respective teams this season.
