SCIAC AOW Hat Trick for Whitman

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 12, 2008) – For the third time this season senior guard Connor Whitman has been selected as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for his performance during the week of March 3-9. He capped off his collegiate career averaging 19.0 points per game with a remarkable 9.0 assist/turnover ratio as the Tigers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament.
During Oxy’s first round 52-51 victory over SCIAC foe Pomona-Pitzer Whitman used 15 second-half points, including the final five points of the game, to punch a ticket to Spokane, Wash. for the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
Against Whitworth, Whitman got off to a hot start with 10 points in the first nine minutes of the game, finishing with a team-leading 23 and six assists. Whitman was 6-for-6 at the line in his final collegiate game as the Tigers fell 83-75.
Collectively he made eight three-pointers with seven rebounds, nine assists and three steals with just one turnover in the two games.
As of March 2 his 3.7 three-pointers per game and his 46.3 3FG% placed him fifth and ninth among all players in the nation. Whitman is also nationally ranked in free-throw percentage (46) and points per game (97).
A three-time Oxy Most Improved award recipient, Whitman has scored 1325 career points, including 284 three-pointers, for the Tigers.
