Hall of Fame Team Resumes

’54       Called by Coach Bill Anderson, “My Greatest Team,” it was also his 10th and last champion, as he retired in 1954. Undefeated in league play (8-0), they were 18-3 overall, placing a record ten players on the All-SCIAC teams, with two pitchers throwing no-hitters in league play, Frank Bennett and Dick Sovde. Gil McFadden led the league in hitting .431. The team batting average was .351 and six members are in the Oxy  HOF.

 

’58       An outstanding Grant Dunlap team advancing to the NAIA playoffs before losing to the University of Portland. They were 12-4 league and 18-7 overall, placing six players on the All-SCIAC teams. The team batting average was .277 and four members are in the Oxy HOF.

 

’67       One of Oxy’s Premier Champions, coached by Grant Dunlap to the National NAIA Finals, losing to Glassboro state 2-1. Captained by Tim Brown, they were 12-3 league and 32-6 overall, placing nine players on the ALL-SCIAC teams, with two All-Americans, Phil Garcia and Chris Synodis. The team batting average was .243 and five of the members are in the Oxy HOF.
