LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The California Lutheran University men’s water polo team evened its SCIAC record on the road Wednesday afternoon defeating Occidental, 15-12. In a game that featured five ties and a pair of lead changes the Kingsmen reeled off a 5-2 run to close out the game.

After CLU sophomore Matt Heagy scored his first of a game-high six goals to open the scoring against Occidental, the Tigers went on a 4-0 run to lead early in the second period. The Kingsmen countered with its own 4-1 offensive spurt knotting it up 5-5 at the half.

Tied up 10-10 midway through the fourth quarter, Wesley Lewis, Heagy and Sam Lovetro each scored to take a 13-10 advantage and hold on for the win.

Lewis’ game-winner was the third goal of the day while junior Jeff Chaney added a pair of fourth quarter goals in the win.

Goalkeeper Quinten Beckmann made 12 saves to pick up the team’s first conference victory this season.
