L.A. Sparks’ Co-Owners Featured Speakers at Occidental’s “Celebration of Women in Sports” Dinner Nov. 2

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2007) - Carla Christofferson and Kathy Goodman, co-owners of the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, will be the guest speakers at the fifth annual Celebration of Women in Sports dinner honoring the 1987 NCAA runner-up women’s tennis team and the 1992 NCAA 4th-place women’s track & field team. The theme of this year’s event is “A Celebration of Excellence.” It will be held at Branca Patio at the Johnson Student Center on Friday, Nov. 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Christofferson is a litigation partner in the Los Angeles office of O’Melveny & Myers LLP.  She also is the past president and currently a member of the board of directors of Women’s Care Cottage, an organization that serves homeless women and children in the Los Angeles area.  Christofferson is also a member of the board of directors of the Los Angeles Public Library Foundation, and is a member of the National Assn. of Female Executives and the Los Angles County Bar Assn. She graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1989 and from Yale Law School in 1992.

Goodman, also an attorney, currently teaches high school English and social studies at HighTechHigh-LA, an LAUSD-sponsored charter school in the San Fernando Valley.  Prior to her teaching career, she was a motion-picture industry executive, serving as president, West Coast operations, of Intermedia Films. She is also the president of the board of directors of the Women’s Care Cottage. Goodman graduated from Harvard University in 1983 and the University of Chicago Law School in 1986.

In 2006, Christofferson and Goodman formed Gemini Basketball LLC in order to acquire the Los Angeles Sparks.

The Nov. 2 event will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. The program will start at 7 p.m.
