Tigers Split with Poets

After a disappointing 5-4 loss on Friday March 3, the Tigers were eager to make amends in a doubleheader with SCIAC rival Whittier College on Saturday.  Occidental ended a streak of nine consecutive scoreless innings with a four-run fourth inning but the Tigers committed four errors and allowed seven runs in the sixth. Occidental cut the Poets' lead to two in the 8th and put two runners on base in the 9th but Whittier hung on for the 8-6 victory.

In game two, Whittier jumped out to a 6-3 fourth inning lead but starting pitcher Jayson Williams '08 righted the ship in innings five and six, leaving in the seventh with the score tied at six.  Freshmen Glenn Gray and Patrick Sarkissian hit home runs in the bottom of the eighth to give Oxy a 9-6 lead.  Spencer Woolwine '09 pitched a  scoreless ninth to secure the win.
