Baseball Program Welcomes Alumni to Hall of Fame Weekend

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 18, 2007) – Saturday, January 19, 2008, will be a fun-filled day packed with players reuniting, Alumni being inducted into the Hall of Fame and of course a day back out on the diamond for the young and old-er, alike.
Occidental College has a storied baseball history and 2008 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Hall of Fame. This year eight individuals and one team will be honored at the Third Annual Hall of Fame Awards weekend.
Festivities will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Anderson Field when the current Tigers’ squad meets players of the past in a nine inning game.
All involved will be the first to reap the benefits of off-season renovations to the Oxy baseball headquarters. During the winter months the field was re-seeded and new clay and dirt were laid on the mound and infield, respectively. Spencer Field House also underwent a complete make-over with a new coat of paint, new carpeting and rubber flooring in the locker room and weight room. Additional lockers were added to accommodate all players and a state-of-the-art fitness center replaced an area that was once office space.
The celebration will continue at 5:00 p.m. in the Johnson Student Center where registration and a Social Hour will talk place prior to the Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony.
As a conclusion to the event, eight men will be honored by the HOF including Frank Beal (’07), Duffy Seay (’13), Harry Kirkpatrick (’14), Carl Manoogian (’51), Frank Bennett (’54), Mike Welch (’67), Mike Kniseley (’90) and Mark Harris (’91).
