LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 20, 2008) – Case Miyahira was 4-for-4 at the plate and four Tigers pitchers combined for 7.0 shut-out innings of baseball as Occidental defeated Principia College 13-4 at Anderson Field today in non-conference action.
The freshman shortstop was unstoppable today, reaching base in all five plate appearances, with a pair of doubles, singles and RBIs, adding three stolen bases and a walk. Glenn Gray, Richie Veihl and Geoff Ball each collected two hits for Oxy as well. Gray and Ball doubled as did Ryan Falck.
The Tigers scored in each of the first three innings, plating four in the third inning. Oxy was aggressive on the base paths once they reached, swiping six bases. They added back-to-back three-run innings in the fifth and sixth as well.
A couple of Oxy rookies recorded firsts today as Mike Zugsmith collected his first collegiate hit while Miles Sherman drove in his first collegiate RBI and scored his first collegiate run.
On the hill Noel Banuelos, Brooks Belter, Anthony Ciardelli and Marcus Stoiber combined to throw 7.0 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits total, while striking out six. Belter was credited with his third win of the year for the Tigers.
