LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 29, 2008) – Momentum from yesterday’s road win over the California Lutheran University Kingsmen did not carry over to today as the Tigers fell by 14-3 and 6-4 margins on Anderson Field in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference double header.

In game one alone the Kingsmen collected 21 hits as the Tigers bats were held to just seven hits and three runs. Despite out-hitting the Kingsmen in game two, 9-7, Oxy fell 6-4 behind a complete game, 10 strike-out performance by CLU’s Alex Casillas.

Brooks Belter threw 7.0 strong innings for the Tigers, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three. Senior centerfielder Matt Andersen sparked the Tigers offense with a 2-for-3 game, including a game-tying fourth inning two-run opposite field homerun. Richie Veihl was 2-for-2 while Jason Jebbia and Glenn Gray connected for two hits apiece, each adding a stolen base.

In game one Seth Goss picked up two hits, driving in one and stealing a base. Jebbia stole a base in game one as well, scoring one of the three Tiger runs. Patrick Sarkissian connected for a solo homerun in the second inning.

Occidental falls to 10-15, 2-7 in SCIAC play while Cal Lutheran improves to 10-13-1, 4-4 SCIAC.

The Tigers will host Cal State University San Marcos on Saturday, April 5 for a single game beginning at 1:00 p.m. in non-conference play at Anderson Field.
