Tigers Struggle Against NAIA CSU San Marcos

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 29, 2008) – The woes continued for the Occidental College Tigers today as they dropped a 16-2 non-conference game to NAIA CSU San Marcos at Anderson Field.

Things started tough for the Tigers who allowed nine runs in the first two innings. The Cougars tagged Oxy pitchers for three homeruns, a triple and four doubles as part of their 15-hit attack on the day.

Occidental’s bats were quiet, combining for just eight hits. Three of those came in the fifth inning when Spencer Woolwine and Jason Jebbia led off with back-to-back singles, both scoring on a double by Glenn Gray. That was all the Tigers could string together in the game, offensively though.

On the hill, Anthony Ciardelli threw 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out two before freshman Kris Suzuki took the ball in the ninth retiring the only three batters he faced in order.

Oxy falls to 10-16 overall and sit at 2-7 in SCIAC play. The Tigers will open a three game series with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Friday, April 11, 2008 at home before playing a double-header on the road Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
