Gray Headed North To Play Summer Ball

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 29, 2008) – For the last two seasons Glenn Gray has roamed the outfielder at Occidental College. This summer he will travel to Moses Lake, Wash. where he will play for the Moses Lake Pirates of the competitive West Coast Collegiate Baseball League (WCCBL).

The San Diego, Calif. native attended Scripps Ranch High School before choosing Occidental College. Gray’s decision to attend Oxy was a combination of the high level of academics coupled with the opportunity to come in an play baseball right away. During his first season for the Tigers he earned Second Team All-SCIAC and Third Team All-Western Region honors while mainly being in left field with a few appearances as in the designated hitter slot.

Based in the Pacific Northwest, the WCCBL is home to eight teams, five from Washington, two from Oregon, and one from Kelowna, British Columbia. The WCCBL mainly recruits out of the top Division I conferences, especially the Pac-10, Big West, WAC, WCC, and Mountain West leagues. The WCCBL season consists of nearly fifty-five games, including playoffs. In the summer of 2006, Oregon State pitcher Jorge Reyes, who was named the Most Outstanding Player of 2007 College World Series, was a member of the Pirates.

Gray is excited to play in the Northwest this summer. “I feel very lucky to be participating as a member of the Pirates.”

The level of competition and the attention and exposure to professional baseball scouts will be something new for Gray.

“The quality of play without a doubt will be a higher level than I have ever experienced and I look forward to competing with an outstanding field of players to see how I match up with them on the diamond.”

Over the summer Gray will not only represent himself, but the college and the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Currently Gray is leading the Tigers with a .376 batting average and a .584 slugging percentage. He has 38 hits with seven doubles and four homeruns while drawing 12 walks. Gray has driven in 26 runs and scored 22. In the outfield he has 51 putouts and a pair of assists.

“Coming from a Division III school, I feel that I have been given a great opportunity to not only showcase my talent at a premier level of amateur baseball, but also give the Occidental Tiger baseball program more credibility and respect among the baseball world.”
