Tigers Hurlers Complete Successful Summers
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Aug. 19, 2009) Weeks after the conclusion of the spring semester when many students were packing their bags to go home for the summer, a pair of Occidentals top hurlers packed their cleats and gloves and headed off to two respectable and very competitive summer baseball leagues. With one in Palm Springs and the other in Oregon, the experiences they had and skills that they honed were very similar and entirely rewarding.

Middle Infielders Earn All-SCIAC, Jebbia Named All-West Region
LOS ANGELES Calif. (May 19, 2009) The tandem of Tigers middle-infielders, Jason Jebbia and Daniel Kelley were named to the First and Second Team All-SCIAC, respectively while the junior SS landed himself on the Third Team All West Region.

Senior Sendoff with Baseball Sweep
PASADENA, Calif. (May 2, 2009) On the final day of the 2009 baseball season, Occidental College cruised to a pair of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wins, 23-3 and 21-5, over the Caltech Beavers after a close battle on senior day at Anderson Field in which Oxy won 3-1 on Friday afternoon.

Grand Slam Triggers Tigers, Oxy Splits with Whittier
WHITTIER, Calif. (April 25, 2009) Kieran Doherty homered in his second consecutive game, this time with a grand slam in game one of a twin bill at Whittier College. Although the Tigers fell 7-6 in the opener, they used the momentum supplied by the senior utility man coupled with a complete game from Noel Banuelos to earn a 7-3 victory in the rubber game of the weekend series.

Doherty Does it All in Tigers Walk-Off Winner
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 24, 2009) It was a tied game in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded and two outs when sophomore Daniel Kelley stepped up to the plate. The ball he hit found its way past the diving Poets shortstop to score pinch runner Alex Bukac to seal a Tigers 7-6 come-from-behind win today over Whittier College on Anderson Field.

Leopards Too Much for Tigers
LA VERNE, Calif. (April 18, 2009) At home on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon the Tigers were unable to avoid another Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep as they fell 8-0 and 6-3 to the University of La Verne on Anderson Field.

Leopards Claw Past Tigers
LA VERNE, Calif. (April 17, 2009) On the road for the opening game of a three-game series, the teams combined for 25 runs on 32 hits as eight different pitchers worked in the game. In the end, the University of La Verne out-dueled Occidental College, handing the Tigers a 14-11 loss in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

Tigers Earn First SCIAC Win, Split with CMS on Saturday
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 11, 2009) One day after the Tigers fell to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags 14-4 on the road to open up a three-game series, Occidental snapped an eight-game losing streak to pick up their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory of the spring. Oxy earned a 3-2 win in the opening game of a double-header on Anderson Field before falling 12-8 in the series finale.

Occidental Drops Final Non-Conference Game
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 8, 2009) In the final non-conference game of the spring for the Tigers, Occidental College managed to avoid being shutout for the second consecutive outing, but fell to NAIA Division I Vanguard University, 12-1, at Anderson Field this afternoon.

Tigers Fall on the Road to Menlo
ATHERTON, CALIF. (April 5, 2009) It was a tough weekend on the diamond for Occidental College as the Tigers fell in a pair of non-conference games against Menlo College 11-4 and 10-0. On Saturday a tied game after four innings turned into an easy win for the host team before a Sunday shutout as the Tigers were unable to rally much offense and fell in a disappointing end to the weekend.

Tigers Swept in Saturday Showdown with Cal Lutheran
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 28, 2009) After an early lead in game one, the Tigers saw that leas dissipate late, dropping the first of two games on Saturday 7-5 before No. 19 Cal Lutheran controlled game two, handing Occidental a 13-1 loss to close out the three-game series.

Jones Complete Game Effort Falls Short in Comeback Bid
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 27, 2009) For the second time this spring Matthew Jones hurled a complete game. Unfortunately the result this afternoon on Anderson Field was an unfavorable one for the senior righty as the Tigers fell to the No. 15 Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen, 6-5, despite a late spark of offense by the men in black and orange.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 22, 2009) Chapmans two-time All-American Wayde Kitchens got the most of the Occidental College Tigers today on Anderson field as the home team fell 24-8 to the No. 11 ranked Panthers.

Garrett, Jebbia Power Tigers to Victory

(March 18, 2009) For the first time in his collegiate career catcher Dale Garrett trotted around the bases in a day to remember as he and junior shortstop Jason Jebbia combined to go 5-for-7 with seven RBIs, two stolen bases and three runs scored in the Tigers 15-0 non-conference win over Principia (IL) College on Anderson Field.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 12, 2009) The Menlo College offensive production coupled with six Occidental errors was too much for the Tigers to overcome today as Oxy dropped a 14-3 decision to the Menlo College Oaks today on Anderson Field in non-conference action.

Jones Goes the Distance, Tigers and Eagles Split
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 9, 2009) The Occidental College Tigers salvaged a split today as they rebounded from a 6-5 loss in game one to defeat Bridgewater College 4-3 behind a complete game from senior Matthew Jones. The Tigers returned to Anderson Field to kick off a seven game home stand.

Oxy Swept by #19 Redlands
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 21, 2009) The Tigers and Bulldogs took to the field again today in conference action with the results similar to those of the opening game on the road yesterday. Occidental was defeated twice by the #19 ranked University of Redlands, dropping game one 8-5 before being outscored 10-1 in the series finale.

REDLANDS, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2009) After eight innings the Tigers were down 9-0, but in the top of the ninth Occidental pushed a run across the plate, avoiding a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opening game shut-out, and breaking up a shutout by senior Nolan Nicholson.

(Feb. 15, 2009) After a pair of close games yesterday, the Occidental College Tigers were not looking to repeat the come-from-behind wins they needed heroics to pull out, rather they used a seven run fourth inning to shift the momentum of the game in their favor, winning 12-3 in the end.

Tigers Drop Game in Extras, Rebound with Offensive Explosion as Veihl Connects for Two Grand Slams, Three Homeruns
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 8, 2009) After another morning of field fix-up the Tigers and Missionaries resumed their suspended game from 17 hours earlier. Although the Tigers forced extra-innings, they came up short after Whitmans Jay Richard connected for a 2-run 12th inning homerun. Occidental bounced back to score 28 runs on 26 hits in the rubber game of the weekend, winning 28-3.

Wet Weather Suspends Game Two after Tigers Win Game One
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 7, 2009) A rain-out on Friday forced the Occidental College and Whitman College to play a double header on Saturday, well most of it. After a morning full of working on the field to make it playable the teams got in the first nine inning affair with the Tigers defeating the Missionaries 11-6. The second game of the day got into the bottom of the ninth, with one out and runners on second and third before the umpires called it due to torrential rains.

Spring Starts in Grand Fashion for Veihl, Tigers
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2009) The teams were tied after an inning, but Occidental used an 11-run third inning, powered by a Richie Veihl grand slam, to earn an opening day victory as the Tigers defeated La Sierra University 12-8 on Anderson Field.

Rain Puts Damper on Alumni Baseball Game, but Two Individuals and One Team Enter the Hall of Fame
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 24, 2009) Two days of heavy rain forced the 2009 Occidental College Alumni Baseball game to be cancelled on the Fourth Annual Hall of Fame Awards weekend, but the Hall of Fame Inductions went on as planned with a pair of athletes and one team being honored at a dinner held in the Johnson Student center.

Baseball Players Embrace Opportunity to Give Back
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 20, 2009) Last week members of the Occidental College baseball team travelled to the Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles to participate in a community service project. All 24 members of the 2009 Tigers squad spent a few hours in the afternoon visiting with patients ranging in age from two to teen.
