LOS ANGELES — Pedro Aldape (Sherman Oaks) was one of nine SCIAC players named to the d3baseball.com All-West Region teams at the end of May, adding another individual accolade to the power-hitting first baseman's stellar season.
The Tigers cleanup hitter made the third team.
Aldape and teammate Scott Hong (Los Angeles) were also named to the American Baseball Coaches Association's All-Region squad this week.
Aldape hit .390 with eight home runs and 45 RBIs — four shy of Oxy's all-time single season record (48) — leading the Tigers to their best season since 1982.
The Tigers finished above .500 for the first time since 1990, going 23-16 overall and 18-10 in the SCIAC.
Aldape led the conference with 38 RBIs and was third with five home runs. He led Oxy in batting average, on base percentage (.441) and slugging percentage (.640), among hitters with at least 20 at bats.
The junior was named Second Team All-SCIAC, losing out on the one first base spot to Pomona-Pitzer's James Campbell, who made the d3baseball.com's First Team as a designated hitter after splitting time at the two positions throughout the year. No other SCIAC first basemen were recognized on the list.
Sports information directors nominated players from their respective schools, then a panel of voting sports information directors chose the winners.
