Watson, Tigers Too Much for Beavers

LOS ANGELES Nolan Watson struck out nine, Jake Palumbo hit a three-run shot and the Occidental College baseball team dominated Caltech from start to finish winning 18-0 Friday afternoon.

Watson allowed just three hits in six innings in his shutout performance. 

Palumbo left the yard in the bottom of the sixth inning with a shot over the left field fence to score Derek Sun and Devon DeRaad. He finished the day with four RBIs, with DeRaad following right behind him with three RBIs.

Oxy jumped out to an early lead with Charlie Caccamo and Brady Fuller scoring off a DeRaad double. Jared Baur and Reid Gibbs rounded out the inning with and RBI each to put the Tigers up 4-0 at the end of the first.

Ten different Tigers recorded RBIs with Eamon McNeil,  Gibbs, and Bryan Smith each totalling two.

Vince Pizzichini pitched the final inning for the Tigers, recording two strikeouts in his season debut.

Season Impact: The Tigers pull even to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in SCIAC play. The Beavers fall to 1-5 and 0-4.

Next Game: The Tigers make the short trip to Pasadena for game two against Caltech at tomorrow 11 a.m.
