Oxy Season Ends in SCIAC Playoffs

Oxy Season Ends in SCIAC Playoffs

ORANGETom Butler and Diego Ramirez continued Oxy's trend of outstanding pitching, but the Tigers couldn't match it with any runs in a 1-0 loss to Cal Lutheran at Chapman in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Saturday.

The loss is Oxy's second in the tournament and eliminates them from the field. The Tigers opened the SCIAC tournament with a 2-1 loss at La Verne on Friday afternoon.

Butler struck out nine batters in seven innings of work, with just four hits and one walk. The only run against him came on back-to-back wild pitches in the bottom of the seventh.

Diego Ramirez pitched one perfect inning in the eighth.

Nolan McCarthy gave up just two runs in a complete game effort for Oxy the day before.

Jake Fredrickson, Antonio Andrade and Reid Gibbs had Oxy's only three hits.

Chris Kovach started the game and pitched three scoreless innings, and Zach Hardman pitched six scoreless innings.

Season Impact: The Tigers finish the season at 28-14 overall.

Cal Lutheran improves to 27-14.

The SCIAC has four of the seven teams ranked in the West Region. Oxy still has a chance to get an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament if they don't win the tournament, depending on other results and a little luck.
