Groh Named All-American

WACO, Texas (Dec. 8, 2007) – Announced today, Alex Groh, earned a spot on the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All American team after punting his way to the top of the Division III rankings in 2007.
The six-foot-three, 220 pound sophomore from Fountain Hills, Ariz. led the nation with a 45.9 yards per punt average.
Groh had 36 opportunities to punt during the season. Twelve times the ball traveled more than 50 yards, with 11 kicks landing inside the 20 yard line, including three touchbacks.
His longest punt of the season came on Oct. 27 when he sent the ball sailing 61 yards against Cal Lutheran. In the same game he added two more punts over 50 yards.
After leading the conference with his punting stats, Groh was named to the First Team All-SCIAC at the end of November. Last year he earned Second Team All-SCIAC status as a freshman.
The AFCA chooses only one team from Division III institutions across the nation for All America recognition each season.
