Football Announces Fall Schedule

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 23, 2009) – The 2009 Occidental College football schedule has been released and among the most notable games of the season is a week three match-up between Occidental and Linfield College (Ore.).
On Sept. 5 the season will kick-off against Menlo College in Atherton, Calif. at 1:00 p.m. for the season opener. Oxy will then use a bye week to prepare for the Linfield Wildcats, who were 6-3 with a 5-1 Northwest Conference record last season, at home on Sept. 19 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Another bye week will allow the Tigers time to prepare for the SCIAC opener which will be at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Oct. 3. Oxy will host the University of Redlands Bulldogs, to start a four-week home-stand. Week seven will be the final non-conference game of the year as Chapman University heads into town. The final home game of 2009 will be against Cal Lutheran on Oct. 31 at 7:00 p.m.
Homecoming is scheduled for Oct. 24 at 1:00 p.m. when the University of La Verne visits Patterson Field.
Occidental will close out the regular season with pair of rivalry road games at Pomona-Pitzer (Nov. 7) and at Whittier College (Nov. 14) in the battle for The Drum and The Shoes, respectively.
In 2008 the Tigers claimed their fourth Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in five years after completing an undefeated (9-0) regular season and advancing to the First Round of the NCAA Division III Postseason. During the season they climbed as high as 11th Occidental finished ranked No. 15 in the Nation with a 9-1 mark.
