All-American Boys: Groh, Wertheimer recognized at highest level

SALEM, Va. (Dec. 19, 2009) – As the 2009 Division III football season culminated with the annual Stagg Bowl in Salem, Va. between the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater and Mount Union College, the d3football.com staff announced the All American Teams at a banquet following the game, which UWW won 38-28. Two Tigers earned the highest honor given to collegiate athletes as both Alex Groh and Alex Wertheimer earned All-American status.

Groh, a pre-season All-American selection, who played just five games before a career-ending injury, was named to the First Team, while junior teammate, Wertheimer, landed on the Second Team. Wertheimer and Groh were both named to the First Team All-West Region last week and earned Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-SCIAC honors from the league earlier in December.

The pair was two of just three Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference athletes to be named All-American’s in 2009.
