PASADENA — Occidental College Athletics is celebrating a storied tradition with some new festivities at homecoming weekend.
The day before the Oxy football team takes on Pomona-Pitzer for the 114th time in the oldest college football rivalry in Southern California, the Tigers will hold the first annual Legends Golf Classic on Oct. 26 at 8 a.m. at the Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena. Registration is $ 125 for individuals and $ 450 for foursomes. All proceeds benefit Oxy football. The shotgun start is set for 9 a.m.
Prizes will we awarded to winners of the longest drive and closest to the pin competitions, and to the winning foursome. A silent auction, with lots of NFL memorabilia including Joe Montana autographed jerseys and footballs, and lunch will follow the round.
The golf tournament serves as a prelude to the inaugural Occidental College Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Jack Kemp Stadium at 6 p.m. that evening.
"We want our fans, parents and alums to come back a little early," Occidental football coach Bill Redell said. "Come enjoy the golf tournament, the Hall of Fame induction dinner, the football game and everything else that's happening on campus homecoming weekend."
