LOS ANGELES — Occidental head football coach Rob Cushman has been selected to coach a group of NCAA Division III All-Stars in Mexico this December.
Cushman, who's in his first year with the Tigers, will serve on a staff of coaches that will lead an American group in the Tazon De Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) against a group of all-star players from private Mexican Universities.
The sixth annual game that is sponsored by Global Football, will be played on Dec. 16 at the Margarita Aztiazarán de Fimbres Stadium at CETYS University in Tijuana. The group will participate in a week-long schedule of events, including team practices, community service and the game.
"It's an honor to be selected for the fourth time. The previous games have been an amazing experience with good coaches, good people, great groups of players and great hosts," Cushman. "It's an incredible opportunity to represent Occidental football in a game like this."
It will be the fourth time Cushman coaches in this game, but not his first experience coaching football abroad.
"In the past I've had the great fortune to take two teams to Europe to Switzerland and Austria in 2010, and to France in 2013," Cushman said. "We are looking forward to taking an Occidental group on a foreign trip in the next couple of years."
