LOS ANGELES — The Occidental football team fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 27-7 on Homecoming at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.
Oxy's defense played well at times and the Tigers moved the ball much better in the second half, but couldn't keep up with first-place CMS.
Oxy's Jackson Caudle was the player of the game on defense for the Tigers, making eight solo tackles for 10 total, including one sack on a fourth down play in the fourth quarter.
Oxy scored its touchdown on a 15-yard pass from Joshua Greaves to Seth Holston with 5:54 left in the game. Greaves played solid on offense, going 11 for 18 with 104 yards and the score. He also had 28 yards rushing.
DJ Adams was Oxy's best weapon, gaining 120 yards. He had 28 rushing, 32 receiving and 60 on returns.
Garrett Cheadle led CMS with 15 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown.
CMS head coach Kyle Sweeney is an Oxy alumnus who played football with the Tigers in the early 2000s. CMS has already beaten Redlands this year and has Whittier, Chapman and Pomona-Pitzer in front of them in the driver's seat for their first SCIAC Championship in Sweeney's tenure.
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in SCIAC.
CMS improves to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in SCIAC.
