Brent Peterson Wins Kingsmen Invite
Brent Peterson '06 shot an eight-over-par 224 to win the prestigious Kingsmen Invitational March 20-22 at La Purisma G.C. in Lompoc, Calif. Peterson carded a 73 on day one, shot a 78 in a steady rain on day two, and finished with another 73 to win the tournament title by five strokes.
"It was a tremendous effort by Brent in some terrible conditions," said first-year head coach Erik Johnson. "He beat out some very good golfers. We saw a little bit of history made in Occidental golf last weekend."
Twelve of the tournament's top 20 players came from SCIAC schools, including Alan Johnson of Cal Lutheran (229, 2nd place) and the Redlands trio of R.J. Scholl (229), Trevor Young (231, 5th) and two-time SCIAC Player of the Year Nick Obie (232, 6th). Redlands, currently ranked second in NCAA Division III, won the tournament team title with a three-day total of 926.
Peterson, a native of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., is a three-time All-SCIAC selection. He shot a 47th place 162 (77, 85) at a rain-shortened Kingsmen
