Lessons From a Pro

Olin Browne (second from left) poses with from left John Hoffman, Jaime Hoffman (Oxy AD), Don Logan and Andrew Rubin at the Bel Air Country Club.

BEL AIR, Calif. (Feb. 11, 2008) – Occidental College Tiger Club received a generous donation as Oxy alumnus, professional golfer, Olin Browne, played a round at the Bel Air Country Club with all proceeds going to the TC.

Andrew Rubin and Don Logan were the highest bidders and enjoyed a day out on the links with Browne and John Hoffman, who hosted the group at the Bel Air Country Club. Before the foursome teed off Browne offered tips on the driving range, which continued intermittently throughout the 18 holes of play.

Beyond offering golfing advice, Browne reminisced to his playing days as a Tiger, sharing memories of Occidental that he holds dear to his heart. While at Oxy, he met his wife Pam (both class of 1981), who was a member of the tennis team.

Olin joined the golf team his sophomore season and improved to the # 1 player by his senior year. Twice he was a First Team All-SCIAC selection and in 1982 he received an at-large bid to play in the NCAA Division III Championships.

This event was possible as Olin had a break between a pair of PGA events at Pebble Beach and Riviera.

Browne first appeared on the PGA tour in 1997 when he played at the U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club in his hometown of Washington D.C. In 2005 Browne enjoyed a career year as he won the Deutsche Bank Championships earning his first invitation to the PGA Tour Championship, where he finished 14th.

Tiger Club and Occidental College Athletics are hopeful that this will become an annual event. Please check back for 2009 dates.
