Oxy Opens Season with Split


CHINO HILLS, Calif. (February 14, 2008) – The Occidental College golf team played against both Chapman University and La Sierra University to open up the 2008 golf campaign. Oxy defeated La Sierra, but fell to Chapman on opening day.

 

The Tigers combined to shoot a 325 while Chapman was two strokes under that at 323 with the Golden Eagles needing 329 strokes to finish the course.

 

Sophomore Richard Highsmith paced the Tigers with a 79 followed by freshman Nick Schradle one stroke behind at 80.  Aaron Steinberg and Ryan Ferguson each shot an 83 as the final two scores for Oxy.

 

Ferguson, Schradle and Tori Leon, who shot an 87, all played in black and orange for the first time in college.

 

Chris Nelson also competed for the Tigers, posting an 85.

Occidental will meet the six other conference schools who sponsor golf on Wednesday, Feb. 20 for the first of five SCIAC matches.
