Golf Season Concludes; Highsmith Named All-SCIAC
CHINO HILLS, Calif. (April 28, 2008) – Today, following the men’s golf conference championship at Los Serranos Golf & Country Club 2008 All-SCIAC teams were announced.
Sophomore Richard Highsmith led the Tigers to a sixth place finish with a combined two-day total of 616 strokes earning Second Team All-SCIAC recognition. In round one Occidental used 315 strokes to complete the course before lowering their team total to 301 in the final round of play. Oxy players combined for 20 birdies and 113 pars during the event.
Highsmith finished tied for 15th after shooting a 76 and 72 with 26 pars. Aaron Steinberg took two strokes off his day one total (79) for a second round 77. Ryan Ferguson also lowered his score round one (81) to round two (76). The largest improvement came from Chris Nelson. After struggling on the first day with a 91 he returned to shoot a 76 in the final round of action.
Also playing for the Tigers today were Alex Safransky (81 and 86) and Tom Logan (79 and 89).
The University of La Verne won the title as 2008 SCIAC Champions after taking first at all five tournaments during the season and the 36-hole conference championship.
