FAQs
Coach Erik Johnson answers some of the most commonly asked questions.
Q. How good do you have to be?
A. I look for golfers that are able to shoot consistently in the mid-70s to low-80s. As you might expect in a region where you can play golf year-round, Occidental competes in one of the toughest Division III conferences in the country.Q. How many players do you carry on the team?
A. In conference matches we play six and count the four best scores. The number of players on the team can vary from year to year, depending largely on athletes’ class schedules, but never more than nine.Q. Can women play?
A. Absolutely, but they must compete with everyone else for a spot on the team.Q. What does the practice and match schedule look like?
A. We practice four days a week—Mondays at Annandale, our home course; Tuesdays at Oakmont County Club; Wednesdays at Brookside, a public course; and Thursdays at Scholl Canyon, also a public course, with a teaching pro.
