Whitman Named SCIAC Athlete of the Week


LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan 9, 2007) – Oxy senior guard Connor Whitman was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for her performance on the court between Dec. 17, 2007 and Jan. 7, 2008.

In seven games since mid-December Connor Whitman averaged 16.7 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game and 2.1 steals per game. He recorded a career night with a 37-point performance, including eight three pointers, against Illinois Wesleyan on Dec. 29.

Six of seven games he produced a double figure points performance. In the first game of the Occidental Holiday Classic he scored 20 against Chapman and followed with his first double-double of the season the next day with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

During this time Whitman dished out 17 assists, including five against Mt. Saint Mary’s, recorded 15 steals, including five versus Chapman, and two blocks. Overall he shot 41.1% from the field (37-90), 42.9 % from long range (24-56) and 79.2% from the free throw line (19-24).

Whitman has led the #21 Tigers to a 10-1 record this season thus far with a current nine game win streak entering SCIAC play Saturday, Jan. 12.
