Anderson’s Double-Double Leads Tigers past Golden Eagles


RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Dec. 1, 2007) – Just a week ago the Tigers and Golden Eagles met for the first time in 2007. Tonight, it was a different location, but the same result as Occidental defeated La Sierra University 77-66 at Alumni Pavilion in Riverside.

Sophomore transfer Sean Anderson led the way with 13 points (5-for-7 from the field, 3-for-4 from the line) and 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Tiger. Additionally, he added two assists, two steals and the only Oxy block of the night.

Senior guard Connor Whitman led all players with both 28 points, including four from three point range, and three steals. Fellow classmate Chris Pitcher handed out a game high six assists and Gemayal McBride added four.

Occidental finished the night shooting 51.7% from the field and 73.3% from the line. McBride, Huston Conti and Gyan Alexander were each 2-2 from the stripe.

Each team grabbed 27 rebounds. Occidental scored 13 second chance points, all coming in the first half.

La Sierra’s Roy Stubbs blocked four shots, scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Andrew Grooms and Cortez Ward each poured in 19 points for the Golden Eagles.

The Tigers improve to 3-1 overall.

Occidental will enjoy a 17 day break before playing in the Chapman-Oxy Classic Dec. 18-19 at Chapman University in Orange, Calif. Tuesday Oxy will play Pacific Union at 3:00 p.m. before rounding out the tournament with a game at 1:00 p.m. against SUNY Plattsburgh on Wednesday.
