Tigers Continue Winning Ways on the Court

IRVINE, Calif. (Dec. 28, 2007) – After enjoying a brief break for the holidays, the Tigers basketball squad returned to the court, picking up where they left off on Dec. 19: winning. Occidental defeated Southern Maine 69-46 at the Surf City Classic hosted by Concordia University.

Leading the charge for Oxy was senior guard Connor Whitman who poured in 18 points as he hit four of six shots from beyond the arc. Adding a 17 point performance was junior guard Huston Conti.

As a team Oxy out-rebounded Southern Maine 46-30. Sean Anderson and Chris Pitcher grabbed seven rebounds apiece and Gemayal McBride finished with six. Anderson, a sophomore transfer, added a pair of blocks. Pitcher dished out a game high six assists while McBride added four.

The Tigers shot 46.4 % from the field as a team. Southern Maine shot just 27.8 % overall.

With the victory the Tigers improve to 6-1 while Southern Maine fell to 3-7.

Oxy will be back in action tomorrow when they host Illinois Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. in Rush Gymnasium.
