Men’s Soccer Rebounds with Win

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2007) – Occidental College put together a 7-0 victory over Caltech in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play today. The Tigers rebounded from a devastating 3-2 loss in the final 45 seconds of regulations on the road at La Verne earlier in the week.

In the 26th minute of action on D.W. Patterson Field freshman Kosa Goucher-Lambert scored on an assist from senior Alfie Berumen for the first and ultimate winning goal against the Beavers.

A trio of freshman Tigers found the back of the net, including Goucher Lambert. Joining him in scoring for the first time in his collegiate career were Termaine Tucker and Deryck Lim. Additionally, Tucker added an assist on the first of two John Minger goals.

Rounding out the scoring in the contest were junior Fran Taylor and senior Bennett Addison. Freshman midfielder Rob Riccardi was credited with a pair of assists while fellow rookie Skylar Roush added an assist to his stats as well.

In front of the goal Ian Powell played nearly 74 minutes and made three blocks. Alex Combs got into the game for the final 16 minutes of action guarding the cage.

Occidental took 26 shots and the defense limited the Beavers’ shooting opportunities to just five. The Tigers also had seven corner kicks while Caltech had none.

For the Beavers, Elliott Pallett had nine saves in front of the goal.

Oxy improves to 2-3 and sits in the middle of the SCIAC pack with a 1-1 record in the young season.

The Tigers will host the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens (1-5, 0-2 SCIAC) at the Lower Soccer Field on Wednesday with kickoff slated for 4:00 p.m. in the SCIAC match-up.
