Tigers Soccer Wins Second Straight

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2007) – Composure, confidence and control all aided in the Tigers’ 3-1 victory over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Pomona-Pitzer today on the Lower Soccer Field at Occidental College.

Occidental got on the board first as senior forward David Rosenberg scored an unassisted goal in the 8th minute of play.

Sagehen junior forward Kyle Hill knotted the game 1-1 in the 15th minute.

Tigers freshman defender and midfielder Kosa Goucher-Lambert scored the go ahead and ultimate winning goal in the 32nd minute when he found the left corner. Junior forward Aaron Mun added an insurance goal with 15 minutes to play.

The Oxy defense played Pomona-Pitzer tough led by the senior duo of Ben Torgersen and Tad Garrett. The Tigers controlled the game from the beginning.

Ian Powell blocked seven Sagehen shots while his Pomona-Pitzer counterpart finished with five saves.

Each team took 14 shots, but the Tigers tallied five corner kicks to the Sagehens’ three.

Their hard work paid off as they evened their season record to 3-3 and improved to 2-1 in SCIAC play. Pomona-Pitzer drops to 1-6, 0-3 SCIAC. Oxy is currently tied with La Verne for second place while Cal Lutheran and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps are tied at 3-0 in conference competition.

The Tigers will travel to Redlands (3-2, 1-1 SCIAC) on Saturday morning when they kickoff at 11:00 a.m. on Farquhar Field.
