Struggles Continue for Mens Soccer

CLAREMONT, Calif. (Sept. 26, 2007) – Occidental scored a pair of goals on penalty kicks, but the three goals that the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags posted were enough to hand the Tigers their second straight loss in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
Oxy senior John Minger got things started as he has all season for the Tigers. His goal in the 22nd minute put the Tigers on top. The Stags Griffin Halpern tied things up six minutes later.
The score remained tied at the break. The teams battled until the 56th minute when Occidental junior David Lesher put the Tigers up 2-1. That was all the offense Oxy could muster on this day.
CMS’s Max Lipset scored a pair of goals in the 76th and 84th minutes of play to tie and win the game for the Stags.
Alex Combs recorded two blocks for Oxy and CMS goalie Ryan Fahey finished with four.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps out shot Occidental 13-8 in the contest as well.
Oxy drops to 3-5 overall, 1-4 in SCIAC play
while CMS improved to 4-3, 4-1.
The Tigers will host the California Lutheran Kingsmen on Saturday
evening at 7:00 p.m. under the lights of D.W. Patterson Field. CLU
