Trio of Tigers Earn All-SCIAC Mens Soccer Recognition

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 6, 2007) - Three senior Tigers were honored for their performances on the soccer field in 2007. A defensive leader, Ben Trogersen, was honored with the Brine Award of Distinction for his excellence on the field , in the classroom and as a part of the Occidental community. Joining Torgersen with post season recognition were Tad Garrett and John Minger who each earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors.
Torgersen and Garrett worked together all season guarding the Tigers’ backfield. Garrett garnered SCIAC recognition for the first time in his career while Torgersen is now a three time award winner. In 2005 and 2006, his sophomore and junior seasons, Torgersen was named to the Second Team All-SCIAC. This vocal duo will surely be missed on the field next season.
Minger led the Tigers with eight goals and added four assists to his season total. Minger is a three-time All-SCIAC recipient, earning First Team All-SCIAC honors in 2006 after being named to the Second Team All-SCIAC during his freshman campaign in 2004.
Occidental finished the season 7-9-1 overall. The Tigers were 6-7-1 in SCIAC play, finishing fifth, just out of contention for the first annual Post Season SCIAC Championship Tournament.
University of Redlands’ junior Bryan Fakkema was named the 2007 SCIAC Player of the Year. A complete list of All-SCIAC teams can be found at http://www.thesciac.org/sports/msoc/2007-08/news/msoc_allsciac_2007_08.
