Waddington Named Head Coach

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 28, 2008) – D’Angelo “DJ” Waddington is not new to Occidental College by any means, but this season he will make the leap from a two-year assistant coach to the head men’s soccer coach for the Tigers.

In the late 1990’s Waddington trained with the Los Angeles Galaxy at Occidental before injuries forced him to hang up his cleats, ending a career that began in his native Ivory Coast and included playing time in Italy, Paris, Belgium and England.

Currently Waddington is working towards a BA in Film Production at Cal State, Long Beach. He also enters his third year as the head coach of the boys program at Wilson High School in Long Beach, Calif. During his tenure there he has led his team to a conference championship and a semi-final finish in CIF play. Wilson also earned a # 9 national ranking and was ranked # 2 in California under Waddington’s leadership.

While Waddington will lead the men’s program on the field, Colm McFeely will remain responsible for both the men’s and women’s programs as the Soccer Coordinator.
