Sakamoto scores All-SCIAC recognition

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 23, 2010) – Announced by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Occidental sophomore Reid Sakamoto was named to the Second Team All-SCIAC following the 2010 men’s soccer season.

Sakamoto paced the defensive unit during the Tigers’ 6-10-2 season in which they placed fifth in the league with a 6-6-2 mark. Oxy was just one spot out of advancing to the SCIAC Post Season Tournament.

Of the eight shots Sakamoto fired off, five were on goal and he came away with one goal this season.

When asked about his contributions this season, Head Coach Rod Lafaurie offered, “Reid was one of the top defenders in the league, bringing intensity and toughness to the Oxy back-line.”

Not only did Sakamoto start every game and clock more minutes than any other Tiger, he was also one of the team leaders throughout the course of the season.
