LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's soccer team fell in its SCIAC home opener against La Verne on Wednesday, 2-1 at Jack Kemp Stadium.
After the Leopards struck first, Oxy's Connor Allison scored the equalizer and his first career goal in the 78th minute, rebounding a shot by Tod Kawada from point-blank range into the back of the net.
But Saul Uribe scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 85th minute, beating the Tigers. Justin Almandinger drilled a shot into the cross bar that bounced back to Uribe inside the 18-yard box. Oxy goalkeeper John Yonamine appeared to be screened off by a defender and was unable to make a play on the well-hit ball.
Uribe's first goal came in the 18th minute.
The Tigers fall to 1-4-1 overall and 0-3 in SCIAC play.
La Verne improves to 4-0-1 and 2-0-1.
Oxy is back in action on Saturday, hosting Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m.
