LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's soccer team fell 3-0 against La Verne at Jack Kemp Stadium on Wednesday.
Auden Foxe scored the Leopards first goal on a set piece in the 14th minute. Luis Hernandez played a ball in the air and Foxe back-flicked a header over the top of Oxy goalie Scott Drazan's hands.
Chris Long was in the right place at the right time on La Verne's second goal. On a rolling cross into the box in the 31st minute, the Tigers normally sharp back line couldn't clear it and Long made it 2-0.
Johnny DeRuda scored the Leopards third goal on a cross from Manuel Rodriguez late in the second half.
The Tigers had a handful of good chances.
In the 19th minute Santiago Bedoya-Gallego ripped a right-footed shot that needed a diving save from ULV goalkeeper Josh Ramirez on a ball that was rolling out of the box back toward midfield.
Bedoya-Gallego created another great chace for the Tigers in the 30th minute, leaving a ball for Ethan Glass on the right side. Glass controlled it and fired a near-post look that was saved nicely by Ramirez.
Gabriel Barrett-Jackson made a run forward and had a shot saved in the second half for one of Oxy's better looks at the goal.
Season Impact: Oxy falls to 7-7 and 6-6. The Tigers will remain tied for fourth place in the standings with two conference games to play if Pomona-Pitzer ties or loses on Wednesday night.
La Verne improves to 7-6-2 and 4-5-2.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Friday with a non-conference matchup with UC Santa Cruz at 7 p.m.
