Tigers Rout UCSC, Tie on Senior Day

LOS ANGELES -- Brooks Yeager scored a pair of goals as the Occidental men's soccer team cruised past UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference match, 4-0 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Friday.

Oxy improves its overall record to 8-7.

Santiago Bedoya-Gallego and Liam Walsh also scored for the Tigers and Nicolas Eble had a pair of assists.

Oxy got a goal in the fourth minute and then exploded for three goals in the second half.

The Tigers played a second non-conference match on Saturday, drawing with Texas-Dallas 0-0 after 110 minutes of action. 

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, hosting Texas-Dallas at 1 p.m. Oxy returns to SCIAC play at Caltech on Oct. 25. The Tigers are one point ahead of Pomona-Pitzer for the fourth-and-final SCIAC postseason tournament spot. Pomona-Pitzer still has to play Caltech, Redlands and Chapman. Oxy just has Caltech and Redlands.

Prior to the Saturday match, Oxy celebrated the careers of six outstanding seniors that have had a big impact on Oxy men's soccer.

#2 Gabriel Barrett-Jackson from Seattle, WA. Gabe is an Urban and Environmental Policy Major. During his Oxy soccer career he has 64 career starts, 2 goals, and 2 assists as center back. He was named Defensive MVP in 2014 and 2015, 1st team all SCIAC in 2015 and 2nd team All-SCIAC in 2016. He is also a 5-time track and field All-American, and has the 10th best Oxy time in the 400m. He was accompanied by his mother and track coach Tyler Yamaguchi.

#6 Ryan Banard from Lexington, MA. Ryan is a Kinesiology major and a Public Health and Biology minor. He hopes to attend graduate school to become a Physician's Assistant. Ryan he was accompanied by his brother Brett, his mom Charlene, and his dad Chris.

#8 Elijah Remy from El Dorado Hills, CA. Eli is a Psychology major. He has 58 games played, 9 goals, 7 assists and 25 points during his time at Oxy, while also being a captain on the team this year. Eli was accompanied by his mother Celia.

#10 Santiago Bedoya-Gallego from Poway, CA. Santi is a Biochemistry major and Spanish minor. Santi was the recipient of the Priscilla and Don Smith Fellowship in Chemistry. He was accompanied by his mother Dora Gallego.

#11 Tod Kawada from Tokyo, Japan. Tod is an Economics major. He has been recognized on the Dean's List and his athletic accomplishments include SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, 3rd Team All-West Region, 2nd Team All-SCIAC and 1st Team All-SCIAC.

#14, Brooks Yeager, from Portland, OR. Brooks is a Geology major with a concentration in Environmental Science. Brooks scored 6 goals during his career at Oxy. He was accompanied today by his mother Julie, father Fabian and older brother Jordan.
