Oxy Hands CMS First Loss

CLAREMONT -- Matthew Teplitz scored the game-winner as the Occidental men's soccer team handed first-place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps its first loss of the season 2-0 on Saturday.

Teplitz, a sophomore from Chevy Chase, Md., found the back of the net on a corner kick in just the 3rd minute. Ariel Rosso took the corner, Matthew Labrie flicked it on and Teplitz finished it off.

Ben Simon scored the insurance goal in the 71st minute, deflecting a free kick off the CMS wall from 25 yards out.

Oxy goalkeeper Scott Drazan made five saves as Oxy kept CMS scoreless for the first time this season. CMS came into the contest having given up just one goal total on the season.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in SCIAC play. The Tigers join Chapman and Redlands in a three-way tie for second place at 15 points. 

CMS falls to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in SCIAC, remaining in first.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action against Pomona-Pitzer on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium.
