Tigers Swim Past Cal Lutheran

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 12, 2008) – Dickson Fai won all three of his events and earned an NCAA “B” cut as the Tigers defeated the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen 123-107 at Taylor Pool today in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

Oxy started off on the right foot with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay. Fai, Jake Santelli, Toshi Baker and Sean Inoue combined to race in 1:41.94, over seven seconds ahead of CLU.

Fai also won both the 200 IM (2:02.91) and 100 backstroke (52.60) by five and six seconds, respectively. His time in the 100 backstroke earned him an NCAA “B” cut.

Mike Wong battled with CLU’s Jeremy Subadya in both the 1000 freestyle and 500 freesylt. Wong turned in first place performances in both, hitting the wall in 10:36.65, 47 tenths of a second before Subadya for a victory in the 1000 before swimming the 500 in 5:06.45, three seconds faster than Subadya. He also added an Oxy 1-2 finish in the 200 IM, finishing second to Fai.

Baker won the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 55.62, just ahead of Subadya (56.35). He also earned a second place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:53.09).

Jeven Dovey took honors in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in over two seconds ahead of the second place finisher, at 1:04.56.

Santelli (23.36), Inoue (23.55) and Derek Monroe (24.69) hit the wall 2-3-4 in the 50 freestyle behind Michael Blanchard (23.14). Inoue finished in second place, just one second behind Blanchard in the 100 free with a time of 51.22.

The Tigers improve to 3-1 on the season with a 2-1 SCIAC mark. Oxy will dive back into the pool on Saturday, Jan. 19 when they travel to the University of Redlands to take on the Bulldogs.
