Tigers Fall to Bulldogs in the Pool

REDLANDS, Calif. (Jan. 19, 2008) – Celeste Faber and Dickson Fai won two events apiece, scoring 18 points each, for the women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams, respectively, but the Tigers fell to the University of Redlands Bulldogs today in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition.

On the women’s side Redlands defeated Oxy 169-71. The Bulldogs men’s team handed the Tigers a 149.5-85.5 loss.

Faber was victorious in both the one and three meter diving events today. She scored 208.45 points on the IM board, nine points ahead of Redlands’ top diver. On the three meter board she totaled 219.30 points, four points better than the second place finisher.

Also adding a victory for the women was Erin Brinton who finished the 500 freestyle in 5:28.25, nearly eight seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

For the men, Fai recorded victories in the 200 freestyle (1:48.89) and the 100 backstroke (53.04). Toshi Baker edged UR’s Mile Reilly by 71 tenths of a second for first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.30. Baker joined Jack Hans, Jeven Dovey and Sean Inoue on the winning 200 Medley Relay team, which clocked in with a time of 1:44.79.

The women fall to 2-3 on the season with a 1-3 SCIAC mark. Oxy’s men fall to 3-2 overall with a 2-2 SCIAC mark.

Oxy jumps back in the pool on Saturday, Jan. 26 when they travel to the Pasadena, Calif. to compete against Caltech.
