Fai Finishes Seventh in the Nation

MIAMI, OH. (March 23, 2008) – Occidental College’s Dickson Fai capped off his collegiate swimming career with a seventh place finish in the 100 backstroke at the NCAA Division III National Championships this weekend.

Fai earned a bid to Nationals with his time of 51.61 at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the end of February.

In his final appearance wearing black and orange, Fai swam the 100 backstroke in a time of 51.42 in the championship race, to earn the seventh best finish among Division III swimmers across the nation. Joshua Mitchell (Kenyon College) won the event in a time of 48.68, just .08 seconds off the NCAA record set by Will Cunningham (Williams College) in 2006.

During the three-day event Fai also swam the 200 backstroke (1:53.80) and the 50 freestyle (22.41). Fai touched the wall just .75 seconds from qualifying to the finals in the 200 backstroke. He shaved off time in both events from his seed times.

The seventh place finish earned Fai All America status for the season as well.
