Tiger Tennis Ready for Season

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 31, 2008) – Oxy men’s tennis is under the new leadership of Alberto Martin, who has already seen a lot of progress with his team, which is compiled of a dozen players. The senior leadership from Daniel Ikuta, Vince Karlen and Rozelle Hodges and a trio of juniors will be significant for the younger Tigers (five sophomores and one freshman).
“There is a lot of talent on this squad and I can see the players taking a quantum leap on their games,” he offered. “As we practice and start to improve all aspects of the game we will gradually turn strokes in to serious weapons.” The team has been working on athletic development, movement, agility and balance, all of which will aid in improving all around play this season.
The Tigers start the season with matches against two top teams in the nation, and have already shown that improvements are being made. In their season opener, although falling to Concordia, they played competitive tennis, with the opportunities to win a couple of tight matches to go along with their three wins on the day. A year ago, the Tigers got swept against the same team, thus showing how the players have developed from 2007.
Opening the season with tough competition makes all players better and prepares the squad for SCIAC play.
