Tigers Post Impressive Win

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 7, 2008) –  The Occidental College men’s tennis team showed early improvements from years past posting a 6-3 victory over Sewanee, the University of the South (TN), today at home.

Oxy looked to Dan Ikuta, Vince Karlin and Alex Montgomery for two wins apiece on the day. Karlin and Montgomery combined for a 9-8 win at the # 1 doubles spot while Karlin and Montgomery earned an 8-4 win as the # 3 doubles team.

In singles action Ikuta battled back from a 4-6 opening game loss to win the final two games 6-2, 6-1. Karlin and Montgomery were victorious 6-3, 6-0 and 7-6, 6-3, respectively.

Rounding out the Oxy scoring was Reid Fenning (7-5, 4-6, 6-1).

The Oxy Tigers had fallen to the Tigers of the South 9-0 three consecutive years before today.

Occidental will be off during spring break, returning to play Saturday, March 22 at 3:00 p.m. at the McKinnon Family Tennis Center.
