Tigers Continue to Roll
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 24, 2008) – For the third straight match the Occidental College men’s tennis team posted a victory. This time, the Tigers defeated the Lewis & Clark Pioneers by a 5-2 margin at the McKinnon Family Tennis Center.
The Tigers and Pioneers opened with a split in doubles action. Oxy took a victory at the # 2 spot as Alex Montgomery and Vince Karlen combined to defeat Peter Ray and Matthias Kullowatz 8-2. LC’s duo of George Allen and Dirk Frouws handed the Tigers’ # 1 team of Victor Sowers and Daniel Ikuta an 8-4 loss, to even things entering singles action.
Occidental swept the 2-5 slots behind wins from Karlen (6-2, 6-1), Ikuta (6-0, 6-3), Mike Kuhn (6-1, 6-2) and Sowers (6-1, 6-4) for the overall win.
Allen was the only LC singles victory as he defeated Montgomery 6-2, 6-1 at the # 1 spot.
The Tigers improve their overall record to 5-7 as Lewis & Clark falls to 3-11 on the season.
Oxy will be back out on the courts tomorrow afternoon, March 25, when they host the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 3:00 p.m.
