Oxy Takes Final Non-Conference Match

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 25, 2008) – Occidental College men’s tennis continued their winning ways today with an 8-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at home in their final non-conference match of the season.

Oxy swept singles play, dropping their only game of the day at the # 3 doubles spot, by a close 8-6 margin.

Vince Karlen, Reid Fenning, Daniel Ikuta and Victor Sowers each went 2-0 on the day for the Tigers.

Karlen and Fenning joined forces to win 8-4 at the # 1 doubles spot while Ikuta and Sowers matched that score at # 2 doubles play.

Karlen and Stefan Pastor pulled out three-game victory at 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 and 6-4, 2-6, 6-0, respectively in the # 1 and # 4 spots.

Ikuta won 6-3, 6-4, Fenning turned in a 6-3, 6-0 victory, Sowers defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-2 and Jamal Fahim rounded out the scoring with a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Occidental improve to 6-7 on the season, dropping UW-Oshkosh to 9-5 overall. 

The Tigers will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday, April 5 at the Fremont Tennis Center in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action beginning at 9:30 a.m. Oxy is currently 2-2 in SCIAC action.
